Saturday Fun

I woke up this morning in a crafty kind of mood! I'm so not a very crafty person, and this is an area where you all may find a few good laughs and giggles. However, I dedicate this to all those other "not so crafty but want to be" type people out there. I like to look at it with a parental teaching perspective, a "never give up", "always keep trying" attitude:) Yah, that's it!!
Anyway, so I found this really cute idea off of this blog: www.undermypolkadotumbrella.blogsot.com You should check it out, she has some really cute crafty ideas on there. I took this particular craft idea from her glass lantern that she did for her LDS young women group and I turned it into a Halloween craft I could do with my 9 year old daughter. Check out the pics:

We finished off by adding the cute LED tea lights so they light up at night!! I am thinking "Snowman" for Christmas.

Here are some easy to follow instructions for anyone interested in doing this simple, cute craft!!
1.) You will need a jar, you can do any size you like. I found the best prices at Walmart. You can buy a box of 12 for $7.99
2.) We started out by cutting out the eyes, nose, and mouth shapes on a roll of contact paper. This is the best to use because it peels off really easily after your paint dries.Cut out your shapes!
3.) You then, stick your shapes on your jar however you desire, and take outside to spray. (Don't forget to remove the lids before spraying.) I used the Frosted glass for my Ghost, you can find it in the spray paint at walmart for around $4.50 a can. My darling daughter used regular orange spray paint for her Jack.
4.) You spray evenly over your jar and contact paper. Let dry and do another coat. The Frosted glass only takes around 10 minutes to dry between coats so it fits perfectly with my (not so patient attitude) the regular spray paint needs about 25 minutes before ready for the next coat.
5.) After you have done the second coat, let sit for about 30 minutes, then take inside, peel off your contact paper, and WHOOLAH, you have these adorable lanterns to add to your Halloween Decor:)

Things that I love...

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year! A time of changing seasons, ( if you don't live in the desert) a time for family gatherings, falling leaves and cooler weather,( such a blessing when you live in AZ.) I thought since I am starting this blog and doing some soul searching, I would start my day today remembering the things that I love in my life....

Gratitude is the memory of the heart.  ~Jean Baptiste Massieu, translated from French

Going to the pumpkin patch and Jerome, AZ with my kiddo's every October

Ok, so my family has a tradition where every October we go to a pumpkin patch  outside of Prescott, AZ. They have  music, wagon rides, a corn maze for the kiddo's, a train ride, face painting, concession stands that sale corn on a stick, kettle corn and of course, PUMPKINS!!!
It is a GREAT place to go with family. Here is the link for anyone interested in the AZ area: www.azpumpkins.com

Following the pumpkin patch we head to historic Jerome, AZ and have dinner at the "Haunted Hamburger" Check it out: www.thehauntedhamburger.com
This is a loved tradition in our family and makes for wonderful fall family memories!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! I wanted to add some family photo's but have seemed to misplace them on my PC:(I will keep searching and add some as soon as I find them. Maybe this blogging journey will help me get more organized.....one can hope, right?

things I love continued...

baking with the kiddo's...Ok, so behold the season of sugar cookie cutouts!! We have already broken out the Halloween cookie cutters and it's not even October. This makes for a fun playdate activity and came to the rescue for me last weekend when my daughter (Sophia) had her two girlfriends over and for some reason they couldn't all agree on anything...so, I broke out one of my favorite sugar cookie recipes and put the kiddo's to work. Check out the recipe below:

Ultimate Sugar Cookies

1 1/4 C. Sugar
1 C. Crisco (butter flavored)
2 Eggs
1/4 C. light corn syrup
1 TBLS vanilla
3 C. Flour
3/4 t baking powder
3/4 t baking soda
1/2 t salt

Heat oven to 375: Combine sugar and buttered flavor Crisco in a large bowl.Beat at Medium speed until well blended. Add eggs, syrup, and vanilla and beat until well blended.
Combine flour, soda, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add to creamed mixture at low speed. Tip: If to sticky, place in the refrigerator for an hour.

Roll out on floured surface. Do not over work the dough! have kiddo's cut out their designs, They can either sprinkle colored sugars on at this point or wait to frost when cool. Bake for 5-9 minutes. Do not over bake! Remove cookies onto foil or cooling rack, let sit 2 minutes then frost if desired!!

Yummy Butter Cream recipe:

6 T. butter
41/2 C. powdered sugar
1/4 C milk
1/2 t vanilla

In a small bowl beat butter, til light and fluffy. Gradually add about half of the powdered sugar beating well. Beat in milk and vanilla. Gradually beat in remaining powdered sugar. Add additional milk if necessary for spreading!! Yummy!!

Happy Fall Memories!!

UGH, where to begin...

Ok, so I've started this blog several different times. I'm not even sure where to begin! I love looking at all the creative ideas on blogger and thought I would take a "shot" at it! I am not nearly as creative as a lot of these lovely ladies are on here, but HEY, this could turn out to be a great thing for those who need a good laugh or just need to know that it's okay not to be PERFECT!!I have been a stay at home "mommy" for 22 years now and I have to say, I am not even sure who I am anymore. I think this blog will be fun to put together and maybe I will find "myself" once again, or HEY, maybe, just maybe, I might learn a thing or two in the process! Please bear with me as I find my way around here, I am so excited for this journey to begin!
